Sega has confirmed earlier rumors thatValkyria Chronicles would be coming to PC.
Valkyria Chronicles was originally released as a PlayStation 3 exclusive in 2008. The game was developed by Sega’s Sakura Wars team, and was designed to appeal closely to the West, in the same way that the Sakura Wars games caters very well to a relatively small, but loyal, niche in Japan.
As such, it is a tactical RPG with third person shooter elements, with equal attention paid to the tacticial and action elements. Furthermore, Sega’s developers took heavy inspiration from World War 2 to develop a world and scenario that Western players would find more accessible, although it still did use an anime artstyle.
Valkyria Chronicles was a critical success but not a commercial one, selling only 33,000 copies in the US the month it was released. The game did eventually reach lifetime sales of a million units, thanks to a price cut and the release of the official anime.
The release was initially confirmed by the PEGI when they gave it a 16 rating for realistic looking violence. In a matter of hours, Sega confirmed the news on their website, and promised more details soon. There would go on to be two numbered sequels for the game on the PlayStation Portable, the third of which never making it to the West.
