Kill streaks in the Call of Duty franchise have always had a somewhat controversial aura attached to them. It's great that you're being rewarded by doing well, but it's often seen as a case of "the rich get richer." While most people who play Call of Duty on the daily probably don't see much of a problem with a reward system like this, a barrier to entry is created by it. Newer players, unable to attain kill streaks, might be turned off of the series pretty quickly. It makes us wonder if Call of Duty would be any more popular if it were to change this formula, but given the amount of time kill streaks have been a thing, we're doubting that Infinity Ward changes them any time soon.
The next iteration into the Call of Duty franchise is out on November 3rd. Titled "Advanced Warfighter," we're promised futuristic gun-toting action. In preparation for this, Gamestop has posted a video which details how the new kill streak system works. While there are some other minute changes, the biggest comes in the form of customizability. Players now have the ability to buy upgrades for each level of your respective kill streak. This should offer gamers a cool, new way to interact with the game and we feel that it freshens up a pretty tired way of doing things. While the controversies surrounding kill streaks may not go away due to this update, it shows Infinity Ward is committed to improving the player experience. This was also shown when Infinity Ward revealed that Prestige tokens wouldn't be a thing anymore, instead offering gamers permanent upgrades after leveling up.
