If there were two names that have pervaded nearly every corner of gaming, those would be Lego and Minecraft. While the Lego franchise may not see as much success as it did in yesteryear, Minecraft appears to be gaining momentum. While neither of these entities will be going anywhere soon, Lego stands to gain quite a lot from an upcoming deal with Microsoft, who now owns the Minecraft intellectual property. Apparently, the two are teaming up.
Pictures have come out recently that detail six new Lego sets, all based on the popular Minecraft. While there isn't a specific release date for the sets, they will be out before the holiday season. Sadly, there's also no price point currently available. This seems like a perfect marriage, as both Minecraft and Lego utilize block-based components for their designs. While Lego might feature a bit more variance in its shapes, there's no lack of creativity among the Minecraft community., as evidenced by the enormous list of amazing creations made by them.
While pictures don't exist of each set quite yet, here are the ones you'll be able to choose from: “The First Night”, “The Mine”, “Workbench”, “Dragon Edge”, “The Cave” and “The End." All of these choices sound so ominous…
With so many choices, we are looking forward to seeing what the partnership results in. Here are a few pictures of the upcoming product that have been made available (we're betting that the one on the right is a part of "The Mine"):
