The Far Cry series has had an interesting evolution. The first two games in the franchise didn't do so well when it came to review scores, but Far Cry 3 changed the game entirely. The game won a number of awards and was even nominated for Game of the Year by various publications. Now, Far Cry 4 is slated for release later this year and we're left to wonder if the upward trend will continue. While most indicators say "yes," a trailer published recently is cementing our good will towards the game. Dubbed the "Weapons Gameplay Trailer," it shows off a handful of weapons that will be available to players.
A couple of the more interesting weapon additions can be found in the trailer's mortar and auto crossbow weaponry. While Far Cry 3 featured a normal bow and arrow, it will be interesting to see how a more modern crossbow affects gameplay. As far as the mortar goes, we're just excited to blow things up from a distance. Though, mortars have a bad reputation of being highly inaccurate in video games, so here's to hoping Ubisoft Montreal can make their usage an enjoyable experience. The flamethrower will also be making its return, a weapon many players had fun using in the series' third iteration.
You'll also meet quite an interesting character at the beginning of the trailer. We can only assume that this man will be your arms dealer in game, given the emphasis placed on him and his 'church.'
