While PC players have been able to enjoy the offerings of DayZ through its early Alpha testing stages, console users have been left out of the conversation. DayZ is currently slated to release on the Playstation 4 in late 2015, but some news coming out of EGX London has us scratching our heads.
It appears that DayZ will no longer be a platform-exclusive title. Eurogamer asked game creator Dean Hall whether or not the game would ever be coming to the Xbox One. What Hall had to say surprised us, but given the politics of the games industry, there's no telling what e-mails have been sent or thrown around behind closed doors.
"DayZ is definitely going to be a multi-platform title – that's the firm vision from Bohemia's standpoint. But we'll announce what all the other platforms are as we get to that point."
Given that the rumors of DayZ being a Playstation 4 exclusive title were becoming quite concrete, the reporter pressed on and asked if there would even be timed exclusivity for Sony's hardware.
"There's been no decision made about when DayZ releases," he said to Eurogamer, "and that would depend on what options Sony provides. I don't think they've said anything about… Everyone's said they're thinking about it [Early Access releases].
Lastly, Eurogamer asked about potential release dates for both the PC and console versions of the game. Specifically, Hall was asked if there would be a console release next year.
"The during next year thing would depend very much on what do the consoles offer in terms of release strategies," Hall said. "A straight up retail release? It's not going to be next year, because there's just too much work remaining. It would be a very bizarre universe where there would be a 1.0 release of DayZ on consoles before PC."
There seems to be a lot of plans circling around DayZ developer Bohemia Games and we'll be interested to see what happens. Stay tuned for more information pertinent to the title!
