Alien Isolation Survivor Mode Announced and Detailed

September 17, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

The game will ship with a Survivor Mode for players to compete online.

Creative Assembly has announced Survivor Mode for Alien Isolation, which ships in demo form with the game and will be expanded with post-launch downloadable content.

Unlike the main game’s narrative offerings, Survivor Mode is a score-based experience offering a selection of challenges. Much like BioShock Infinite and Dishonored’s challenge modes, Survivor Mode will come with score leaderboards and allow players to compete among friends or globally against other players.

Designer Catherine Wooley describes the Survivor Mode as being “all about the enemies of Alien Isolation”

“These are specially designed challenges where the player must complete objectives against the clock while being hunted,” she says in the game’s reveal video, which you can see below.

Players will have access only to a single map—Basement—when the game launches. It’s a small taste of what the mode has to offer, and Creative Assembly and Sega plan to release the first of five add-on packs for the mode, which includes three new maps, each with their own set objective and challenges. The pack is also set to include a new playable character and a selection of enemy types.

Four additional add-on DLC packs will be released by March 2015, each containing a new playable character, plus a mix of maps and game modes.

Those who pick up the Alien Isolation season pass will be able to get the map packs at a 25 percent discount.

The game is set for release on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on October 7.
