Developer Image & Form Games, creator of the ciritcally acclaimed SteamWorld Dig, has just announced a follow-up set in the same SteamWorld universe. In SteamWorld Heist, you'll command a group of space-faring robots as they scavenge the remains of a ruined planet and rob enemy vessels of their supplies.
Though the teaser trailer above reveals that you'll be viewing the action from a 2D perspective, it doesn't seem to be a pure platformer like its predecessor. Instead, battles are turn-based encounters as in classic strategy games. And while heisting will be a major element of your campaign, fans of SteamWorld Dig will be disappointed to learn that there won't be any digging this time around.
Image & Form is aiming for a Spring 2015 release, but no platforms have been announced just yet. The team is hoping to bring Heist to as many platforms as possible. Since Dig as well as the original SteamWorld game, SteamWorld Tower Defense, both came to Nintendo platforms, it's safe to say that either 3DS or Wii U is a lock. PS4 and Vita are likely candidates as well. We'll know more soon. Keep checking the game's homepage for future details.
