Notch, the imaginably rich developer of indie hit Minecraft, has revealed that the next update to his pride and joy will come complete with an EXP levelling system. In a recent interview with PCGamer, however, he has announced a rather harsh caveat of the feature: dying loses your entire progress.
Trying to put any disgruntled minds at rest, he declares: “It’s really fun. The idea is that you level up really, really fast. You can grind away and level up fast if you want to, or you can just play as normal and level up that way. The longer you play, the bigger the risk of dying becomes. It’s the part that really works. If it feels like it’s too harsh, we might make it half or something like that.”
Not a lot is set in stone thus far. Notch explains that: “I’m not entirely sure on how the levelling is going to work… It’s not implemented in any way that makes any kind of sense at the moment.” It’ll be interesting to see how the next update will add to the already engrossing gameplay on offer in Minecraft. As if it doesn’t already suck enough hours away…
