Volition’s Saints Row studio director Steve Jaros has taken a new unspecified position in Valve.
Steve was with Volition since 2004. He wrote the first three games in the series, prior to moving up to creative director for Saints Row IV.
Recently, Steve commented on a recent installment of Tropes Vs Women In Video Games. He asserted that it was right for the original Saints Row to be criticized for its use of women as background decoration. He elaborated in a later interview that Volition does pay attention to such criticisms, and used this feedback in their video games.
Steve announced the move on Twitter, stating that he was proud of his ten years in Volition, but he simply needed to move on. Neither Valve nor Volition have commented on Steve’s announcement.
Steve dropped no hints on what he would be doing for Valve. The company is known to be actively working onDOTA 2 and Team Fortress 2 among others, but Steve may just as likely be working on a new IP.
Of course, Steve could develop an open world action game similar to Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row. A Steam-exclusive open world game could cement Valve’s position as a top developer even further.
