Shigeru Miyamoto is easily the most famous game creator in the industry. His creations, which include Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda, have been among the most influential in history. A unique element of Miyamoto's design process is that he likes to incorporate hobbies and childhood experiences into his games. I guess we can add one more hobby to that growing list: filmmaker!
According to Japanese culture site Cinra as interpreted by Kotaku, Miyamoto is directing a series of animated shorts based on the Pikmin franchise. The full film, aptly titled Pikmin Short Movie, will sport CG animation and be shown in stereoscopic 3D. The film is further broken down into three shorter episodes, entitled "Midnight Juice," "The Treasure Inside the Bottle," and "One Tough Day."
No other details concerning the movie itself have been revealed, but we do know that it will be screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival being held on October 23 through 31. It will later be screened at Toho Cinemas Nihonbashi with free tickets available as raffle prizes.
So if Miyamoto is making movies now, does that mean his next game will be about running a film studio?
