I don't know when this started happening, but Nintendo is seriously ramping up its output of new 3DS XL models here in the States. We've just got word that four colorful new 3DS XL special edition variants are on their way, themed after the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Smash Bros., and Persona Q.
I have reservations about the NES model, which looks like an NES controller on the outer shell. If anything, the controller design should be printed on the inside while the exterior should look like the console — think back to the NES-themed GBA SP. At the very least, the actual packaging looks amazing. This guy should be out on October 10.
Then there are red and blue Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS machines. This pair will be out on September 19, well in advance of the game's October 3 release. That sadly means these aren't bundles and you won't receive so much as a voucher for the game itself.
The biggest surprise is the Persona Q model, based on the upcoming Atlus game. I don't remember the last time Nintendo of America sold a handheld themed after a third-party game, much less one that has such niche appeal. By all means, it's quite the classy piece of hardware! It will launch alongside Persona Q on November 25, but sadly it too wno't be bundled with the game.
All four models are priced at $199.99 and will be exclusive to GameStop.
