Destiny Metacritic User Reviews Polarized At 60, Lack Of Pro Reviews Explained

September 10, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Reviewers could not tell fans beforehand if the game is good or not, but users were quick to share their opinion.

Destiny is nearing 1,000 user reviews on Metacritic as of this writing, but if you expected it to get universal acclaim after all the hype, think again.

Out of 952 reviews, 549 have positive reviews, 358 have negative reviews, and only 45 have mixed reviews. The negative reviews are so low that the overall user score is mixed at 6.0.

There is no single consensus among the players who gave negative reviews, but there is a general sentiment of disappointment on how the game did not live up the hype generated for it. Here are examples of the complaints leveled against it:

·         Lack of voice chat ruins multiplayer

·         Lack of offline single player

·         A ripoff of Borderlands

·         A ripoff of Halo

·         Poor, limited mission design

·         Bland

·         Repetitive

·         Not an MMO

If you’re wondering what the ten star reviews of the game has, I went through those too. This is what those fans said:

·         Good combat mechanics

·         Good graphics

·         Polished

·         Atmospheric universe

·         Great customization

Many of these ten star reviewers got in and enjoyed the beta, and had set expectations for the full game, that were also met. Some of them pointed out that they knew the game was not an MMO. Of course, there were accusations that the 0 star reviews came from people who did not play the game.

Now, if you’re wondering why no professional reviews have come out yet, there’s a reason for that too. Because of the game’s unique characteristics, reviewers could not play the game until the servers were filled with actual players. As a result, they can only review the game now, along with the first people who bought the game.

Activision announced that Destiny made $ 500 million on day one alone. We will find out in the coming days if that was money well spent.
