After last year’s release of Goldeneye 007 on Wii, a remake of the N64 classic, Activision have recently confirmed a HD remake of the… remake, heading to Xbox 360 and PS3 this year.
The update promises a lot of improvements over the Wii original. A brand new game engine is being employed, which will run the shooter at a solid 60 frames per second.
In fact, early previews show a fair few similarities to the Call of Duty engine, so if you’re a fan of the two franchises, then Goldeneye 007: Reloaded could be a match made in heaven.
Taking full advantage of the (mostly) excellent networks on PS3 and Xbox 360, Reloaded will support 16-player online. For the former console, Playstation Move support will also be included (thank God for that; the peripheral really needs some more games to actually make it worthwhile).
Even more goodies are outlined, such as ‘MI6 Ops Missions,’ bonus levels added to the original campaign, “that span the varied environments from the story and challenge players to complete different Assault, Elimination, Stealth and Defense objectives.” In a move that is becoming less common these days, but unsurprising considering Goldeneye’s heritage, a four-player split-screen multiplayer mode will also be present. This is promised to have more guns, maps and characters than ever before.
Goldeneye 007 on Wii was popularly received on the whole, and this HD remake looks to be taking it to the next level. Will Activision do justice to the much-loved N64 original? Goldeneye 007: Reloaded is set to release this autumn, so we’ll soon find out.
