The original version of the Uncharted script, as presented by David O. Russell, was all about Mark Wahlberg and his family of treasure hunters that travel the world righting wrongs while they play anthropologists. Since that was a horrible idea, and everyone justifiably hated it, the whole thing was eventually scrapped. The director dropped out (Yay!), Mark Wahlberg dropped out (Yay!) and the guy now on the case, Neil Burger, is someone I think we can all agree is the right man for the Job.
In an interview with Collider, Burger says that the script is being completely re-written from scratch, and that he'd like to reach a level of quality somewhere along the longs of a contemporary Indiana Jones movie, which I think is a brilliant idea, personally.
The specific quote:
I think that the game has a really cinematic quality to it, and it has a wild feel to it, and I like the characters. I like the character of Nate. I know guys like him, who are either war correspondents or extreme adventurers – these guys that are living in a very different way and who are slightly hustlers or con-men. I think it’s a great character. All that stuff is there, the trick is to make it into a movie. There’s a lot of moments in the video game that are very cool and very intense. I would use as many of them as I could, if they work into the film’s story.
Thanks, Joystiq!
