Some of the key developers of Disney Infinity have teased 2015's instalment, hinting strongly that Star Wars characters will be introduced to the hit series.
At the end of a Newsarama interivew, Disney Interactive's John Vignocchi and John Blackburn were asked for a hint about what's next for the franchise.
Blackburn said "We can talk about the future, but that's far, far away."
"2015 is not so far, far away anymore, is it?" Vignocchi responed.
Their comments of course being a reference to Star Wars' famous "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" intro. December 2015 sees the release of Star Wars Episode VII and EA is prepping Star Wars Battlefront for launch around the same time so it certainly makes sense for Disney to try to ride the hype for the movie.
Earlier in the interview, Vignocchi promised that Disney Infinity will continue to expand in the years to come.
"So we've created something that we believe, in terms of the offerings of Toys to Life, is much different from what our competitors are doing.
"While we respect, of course, the amazing teams behind Skylanders and all the work they've done there, and we're excited about what we've heard is coming out from Nintendo, we're trying to innovate with our software and empower players to become Disney storytellers. We want to give them a system that's so broad and has so much depth, that they don't have to turn anywhere else."
Disney Infinity 2.0 launches on September 19th in Europe and September 23rd in North America for just about every platform under the sun. The big additions coming to the game this years are Marvel's heroes and it was confirmed last month that the roster will include the Guardians of the Galaxy.
