Famitsu has shared new images and details for Fatal Frame Wii U.
The game has three main characters:
· Yuuri Kozukata is the girl we saw in the initial trailer. She goes to the mountain to find the shop owner who was also in the trailer, Hisoka Kurosawa.
· Miu Hinasaki is the long-haired girl wearing a ruffled blouse. Her mother vanished when she was a child, so she’s never known what it’s like to have parents who love her. She also goes to the mountain in the belief that her mother is there.
· Ren Hojo is the guy with the glasses. He has known Yuuri for a long time, and is something of a failed author. He heads to the mountain to do research for his latest book. In particular, he wants to learn about a custom that uses burial photos.
Aside from these three and Hisoka, they also revealed Ren’s assistant, Rui Kagamiya. Rui respects Ren, but often scolds him for his flippancy. She may call him sensei, but the two actually treat each other like family.
At the start of the game, you can explore three locations:
· Mikomori Onsen, an abandoned ghost house.
· Kurosawa Antiques, the antique shop Yuuri and Hisoka work in. Kurosawa is more than an ordinary antique shop. Not only do people go here to ask for lost things to be found, Hisoka also tells fortunes when requested. It also happens to be a café.
· Shirazu No Mori, is an infamous suicide spot. Although it has been fenced in, people still sneak in. There are rumors that there is actually a murderer hiding inside the area.
You choose what mission to play first, and replay as often as you want. Finishing a mission unlocks more missions, and when you complete the goals in one chapter, you move on to the next chapter.
Fatal Frame Wii U is all about finding people. You have kagemi, a skill which roughly translates to person finding. You seek out a person’s ‘scent’, using their hair or their personal items, and you can also collect clues to help find them. If you follow their footsteps, you can chase their memories, and in that way find them. You succeed when you find them and stop them from spiriting away, to bring them back to the real world.
You also have ghost sight, which you can use to find ghosts and get clues from them. The GamePad acts as the map, with gameplay on the TV. Ghost hands and the touch system to grab items are also returning.
Fatal Frame Wii U is releasing September 27 in Japan, exclusively on Wii U. Stay tuned to GameRanx for information on a Western release, and more details as they are revealed.
