Much of Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world first-person shooter Far Cry 4 is set in the fictional region of Kyrat, high atop the Himalayan mountains. But parts of it are set to take place outside Kyrat, a new interview has revealed.
Players are set to take on the role of a man named Ajay, who returns to his native homeland to scatter his mother’s ashes when he gets embroiled in a civil war. Players must topple a despot named Pagan Min, who controls the land with an iron grip.
Speaking in a recent interview with Red Bull, Far Cry 4’s creative director Alex Hutchinson said that whole the main team at Ubisoft Montreal are developing the game’s core content, which is set in Kyrat, the company’s Toronto and Shanghai studios are also working on parts of the game which are apparently set outside of the fictional highland region.
"The core of the game is developed in Montreal as well as the main missions and most of the open-world," he said. "We try to leverage our co-development studios' talents on self-contained elements of the game, so they can have a certain degree of independence in production while sticking closely to the core creative vision of the game.
"Ubisoft Toronto is working on a series of missions set in an all new environment outside of the game world, and so is Ubisoft Shanghai. We'll be showing their work off shortly, so stay tuned."
In addition to the game’s single-player content, Hutchinson revealed that Far Cry 4 is set to include a competitive multiplayer mode, which is being principally designed and developed by Red Storm Entertainment, which is also working on The Division.
Far Cry 4 is set for a November 18 release on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
