Bayonetta 2 is still a couple months away from release, but today, a flood of previews for PlatinumGames' witchy hack 'n slash poured onto the web. Various outlets played through a significant portion of the game and were allowed to discuss their impressions of the first five chapters. The general consensus? It's every bit as outrageous, sexy, and complex as its predecessor, if not more so.
A lot of the info is stuff we've heard about in previous impressions — such as the introduction Umbran Climax, which allows you to trigger special abilities whenever your magic meter is full. Then there are details that may or may not have passed under your nose — Bayonetta's new guns are called Love is Blue, the silver-haired child is named Loki and he throws cards like Gambit from the X-Men, etc. Eurogamer in particular mentions that the aerial and underwater fights introduced in this game aren't as precise as ground combat, but they don't appear often and aren't a serious detriment to the overall experience. Meanwhile, Nintendo Insider marveled at how quickly you acquire new weapons, like the dual katana Rakshasa or the poison arrow-firing bow Kafka.
The action is intense, the colors are bright, and the humor is corny but fitting for the atmosphere. Bayonetta 2 is shaping up to be quite the catch for Nintendo, which makes the wait for its October release on Wii U that much harder. Do read up on some of the previews that NeoGAF has shared, and watch the GameXplain video above as well to get yourself up to speed.
Oh, and in case you've forgotten, the original Bayonetta will come bundled with the sequel at no extra cost!
