Assassin’s Creed Rogue Lets You Blow Up Icebergs With Your Ship’s Cannons

August 6, 2014 by Stephen Daly

The game is linked to Unity but we’ll have to wait until the ‘final moments’ to find out how.

Game Informer has revealed new details of the recently announced Assassin's Creed Rogue. The game will let you blow up icebergs using your ship's cannons and you can hunt narwhals – personally, I can't wait for PETA to go nuts over that one.

In the game, players take on the role of Irish Assassin turned Templar Shay Cormac and there are multiple missions with him as an Assassin in the game. Cormac is tasked with hunting down the Assassins but they're coming for him too, at this stage it's unclear whether this will be in the story or something to be mindful of while free roaming or both.

Assassin's Creed 3's multiplayer whispers make a return in the revamped singke player eagle vision mode and Game Informer refers to it as a single player adventure, suggesting that the series' competitive multiplayer has been dropped, perhaps permanently.

There is an activity called Assassin Interception which sees Shay save a fellow Templar from the Assassins.

When you jump into the water from your ship, the screen will start to freeze up as Shay's health dips due to the icy North Atlantic Ocean water. The game will be the final installment in the North American trilogy and that may mean that this is the last time we see naval combat for a while.

A connection exists between Rogue and Unity, however it isn't revealed until the "final moments" in the game. Assassin's Creed 3's Haytham Kenway, the son of Black Flag's Edward and the father of Connor, is in Rogue, and he and Shay are supposedly on "good terms".

Ubisoft has also announced the game's Collector's Edition.

This version of the game includes:

  • Assassin's Creed Rogue game
  • Collector's box
  • An artbook including concept art that inspired the game
  • The official game soundtrack
  • Three lithographs in a stylized envelope
  • The Siege of Fort de Sable Mission: Continue the battle at sea with this bonus fort raiding mission set in the unexplored northern territory of the New World.
  • The armour of Sir Gunn's Quest: Explore North America to find the remains of Scottish explorer and Templar Sir James Gunn and solve the mystery of the man who may have been the first discoverer of the New World.

Assassin's Creed Rogue launches for PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 11th while Assassin's Creed Unity is bound for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 28th.
