Thailand's ruling military junta has banned strategy game Tropico 5 which allows players to take on the role of a corrupt dictator.
The country's censor office has listed the official reason as the concern that "some part of its content might affect peace and order". Tropico 5 takes you with leading a nation from colonial times through the 20th century's key events including World War 2 and the Cold War up to the present day. Players can make up the rules and laws for their nation as they see fit.
Publisher Kalypso has confirmed the ban to Eurogamer and local distributor New Era's marketing manager Nonglak Sahavattanapong said:
"We've had licenses to distribute Tropico 3 and 4 before, but in the fifth installment, the story line has developed further and there might be some part of it that's not appropriate in the current situation."
Both Tropico 3 and Tropico 4 have been released in Thailand and the latter game even got a junta DLC last 2011. Tropico 5 isn't the only piece of pop culture to be banned by the junta, they also banned the Mockingjay salute from The Hunger Games which was popular with protesters.
