Facepunch Studios Announces Riftlight

July 29, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

The makers of Rust and Garry’s Mod have announced Riftlight.

The makers of Rust and Garry’s Mod, Facepunch Studios, has announced its next game. Titled Riftlight, the game is described as a twin stick arcade space shooter with a looting system and RPG-like elements. The game is currently in early prototype stages and is planned for release on the PC.

Unlike usual twin stick shooters with pre-set guns and stats, Riftlight has a slight RPG element to it that allows players to equip new weapons and gear to their vehicle—in this case a ship—as they explore new areas of randomly generated space.

In line with the game’s RPG mechanics is a class system that allows players to choose ships from Ranged, Caster, and Melee ship classes. ranged comes equipped with standard lasers and is a decent all-rounder, the Caster can cast spells but has weak shields, and the Melee ship is designed for close-ranged combat.

The game is being designed for co-op play for up to three players and does not yet have a release date.
