Destiny PS4 Beta Is Having Problems, On Bungie.Net And PSN

July 18, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

It’s a huge glaring reminder that betas are not always going to be as great as we imagine them to be.

The beta for Destiny on Playstation 4 is running the opposite of smoothly.

Players are running across issues on two fronts: the official Bungie.net website, where players need to go to get their codes, and Playstation Network. Here’s what’s happening:

The Bungie website is constantly crashing and giving out error page. Some players who get far enough aren’t getting the beta codes on the settings page like they are supposed to. As you can imagine, it’s enough to drive players nuts.

Assuming you were able to retrieve a code from the site, PSN is giving out error messages on their end as well, but you should not panic if you get these. The most worrying one is apparently error code CE-34632-8, indicating that they can’t ‘start the application.’ There are also maintenance error messages when they get to the confirm page, and error messages that the code has been redeemed, even though the beta does not appear in their downloads section.

If you are running into problems with the PSN portion, we already have a partial troubleshooting guide for you here. We cannot guarantee that this will cover every situation, but we hope you find it helpful.

Overall, this situation reflects the high demand for Destiny on Playstation 4, and also how early access and betas can be something of a poisoned chalice. I am worried some Bungie fans may have raised expectations on this beta higher than they should have, and may come out of this disappointed. But of course, the beta is precisely to preemptively handle game issues, but if players can’t even get into the beta, Bungie is going to need to look into that demand, and be ready for the actual launch.

Destiny is set for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9th.
