Sony Online Entertainment’s Ryan Favale has given us a sneak peek at the weather system for upcoming MMO survival zombie game H1Z1. It is looking impressive as it is so far.
As you can see, SOE’s engine allows for subtle differences in grey, and no, this isn’t a matter of limitations. It can reproduce a bright, warm atmosphere as well, but the upside to displaying different levels of hue and saturation is it recreates different weather conditions. For better or worse, H1Z1 is probably going to usually be dank and dark, as would befit a world that has already been overrun by zombies.
Will these weather progressions accurately reflect in-game weather conditions, though? I think Ryan would not be sharing this if SOE were not working to make it so.
So, we see there’s bright weather, and snow, and in between, a world in different stages of being overrun by mist, but I wonder if even more weather conditions are in the making. I think attention could be made to recreating fall / autumn, and on a different level, those harsh summer days that’s convinced many a doubter that climate change is real. And what about other adverse weather conditions, like flash floods, hail, tornadoes, even earthquakes? Zombies can make any adverse weather twice as worse.
H1Z1 is coming Fall 2014 to Windows and Playstation 4.
