This week in Super Smash Bros 4 screenshots, we get alternate costumes, Pac-Maze, Mega Mans, and more.
Monday heralded the return of Poppants, introduced in Super Smash Bros Brawl. Poppants will be waiting for you in Smash Run, dropping items while they scamper around. We already know characters like the Eggman Robot are hiding in the game, and Sakurai revealed another character: the Iridescent Glint Beetles from Pikmin. You can hit these beetles to get more and more gold.
On Tuesday, we were treated to a little bit of fanservice, as Sakurai unveiled alternate costumes for Little Mac. While he talks about the pink sweatshirt – sweatpants combo Little Mac is known for, this screenshot also shows his patriotic Rocky inspired blue with white stripes outfit. Much like Balrog, Little Mac isn’t afraid to show his true blue colors.
On Wednesday, Sakurai had even more surprises. He talks solely about the Mii Gunner’s flashy little business suit. The suit comes with a unique design for the gun, but the attacks and weapons are exactly the same. Of course, unmentioned but prominent, is Rosalina in her alternate white and red costume, and the Rainbow Road as a 3DS stage.
On Thursday, Sakurai reminded us that he took great pains to recreate two very popular and classic reincarnations of Mega Man, Volnutt and Mega Man.EXE, into Super Smash Bros 4. It seemed like he was teasing these Mega Man alternates as alternate costumes, but no, the stinker was alluding to the different Mega Man characters as trophies.
Finally, today Sakurai revealed the special qualities of the 3DS’ Pac-Maze stage, which won’t be in the Wii U version. Eat 100 Pac Dots and Power Pellets will show up in your color. When you eat a Power Pellet, you will be able to beat the ghosts just by touching them. The ghosts will still be able to damage your opponents in this condition, so you can use this to you advantage by forcing the ghosts to maneuver and hurt your opponents. It’s such a devious strategy that it just might work, but we don’t know how this will play out in practice quite yet. I would not be surprised if they ended up tweaking the mechanic for pacing and just give you the Power Pellets right on the dot.
Super Smash Bros. 4 is coming to the 3DS October 7 and to the Wii U this holiday season.
