The Q&A session from Nintendo's 74th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders was recently posted, during which three of Nintendo's general managers — Genyo Takeda, Shinya Takahashi, and Shigeru Miyamoto — fielded inquiries from various shareholders. Some questions lacked tact, such as one requesting if shareholders could receive free gifts in the form of special edition games or another expressing anger that a videogame company is spending too much time talking about videogames at such meetings. Others were more respectful, such as the question asking when more information on The Legend of Zelda for Wii U would be shared.
Zelda series creator Miyamoto took the reins for this particular query, touching upon both Hyrule Warriors in addition to the upcoming open world Zelda. No new information regarding the latter could be discussed at the meeting, but Miyamoto used the opportunity to segue into talk about the recent A Link Between Worlds on 3DS and how it attempted to shake traditional series structure. He concluded his answer with the following:
… [W]e are gradually changing the structure of "The Legend of Zelda" series, and we are preparing to newly evolve the series for Wii U. In addition to that, we have ideas for Nintendo 3DS which we have not announced yet, so I hope you will look forward to them.
It's that last line that's of import — Miyamoto has strongly suggested that an new Zelda is underway for 3DS. It could be the Majora's Mask remaster that fans have been begging for, but given the train of thought preceding this mention, it's more likely to be a completely new title that further steps outside of the Zelda formula.
Be on the lookout for any future Zelda 3DS announcements.
