Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has said Xbox boss Phil Spencer is a "reasonable, smart guy" who had a "great attitude" at this year's E3.
Speaking to Eurogamer at the annual show in Los Angeles, Yoshida said he was impressed by Microsoft's humility this time round compared to last year.
"It was very interesting. The attitude was great, like from Phil Spencer. I read and listened to his interviews, and he's a reasonable, smart guy, compared to some other people who used to say some unbelievable things."
Yoshida appears to be referring to Spencer's predecessor Don Mattrick, who made numerous controversial comments following the Xbox One's reveal before his exit to social game maker Zynga.
Yoshida also spoke about the decision to offer a Kinect-free Xbox One SKU remarking:
"Personally, I was expecting that at some point in the future they'd unbundle Kinect, but I wasn't expecting it this early.
"My interpretation was the management change had really helped them to reset and re-sync everything. And since then they've been consistent."
He also discussed the success of the PlayStation 4 so far, including in the US where it has been the top selling console for the last five months consecutively. Yoshida said that while everyone was hopeful for the console at Sony, they didn't expect sales to be as large as they have been.
Yoshida pointed to the fact that Sony's projections for the last fiscal year was to sell five million PS4s when seven million were ultimately sold and he also referenced ongoing supply shortages in some markets.
The real winner are the players, according to Yoshida.
"I took a few interviews this morning by Japanese media," he commented. "All of them said to me, 'In the US and Europe, the console games are running and kicking and lots of investment's are being made by third parties and great games are being shown.' That amazed them, and I think it was really great for us.
"Competition really pushes everyone, Microsoft and us, to do better," Yoshida finished. "I think in the end the consumers will win."
Following the release of the Kinect-less Xbox One, both it and the PS4 are on sale for $399 so it'll be interesting to see what impact the drop has on sales of the two consoles in the next round of NPD figures.
