The world map for the upcoming Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire was recently released to the public, leading to speculation from the fanbase about any changes compared to the Game Boy Advance originals. The region, known as Hoenn, is more or less identical, but a dark island situated in the north that wasn't present before raises some questions.
Enter the above analysis video, posted by YouTube pdwinnall. The most likely possibilty he suggests is that the island will be home to the "primal" forms of legendary Ruby / Sapphire Pokemon Groudon and Kyogre, who were originally found in the Cave of Origin in Sootopolis City, located closer to the center of the map. Another possibility is that, given the island's dark purple aura, it could be populated by ghost Pokemon. Third, the island could house the event Pokemon Hoopa, which has yet to be officially revealed by developer Game Freak despite its existence already being discovered in Pokemon X & Y's code. His final guess is that the island is gateway to the Distortion World, which would bring us in contact with the legendary Giratina from Pokemon Platinum.
I would place the most stock on pdwinnall's original thought: Primal Groudon and Kyogre make the dark island their stomping grounds. Perhaps it's an island full of nothing but legendaries from the entire Pokemon series! I invite you to check out the original and updated maps of Hoenn below and speculate on your own.
Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire will drop onto 3DS on November 21.
