Ubisoft has revealed some details about Assassin's Creed Unity's modern day sections which will not be set in the offices of Abstergo Entertainment; that's according to senior producer, Vincent Pontbriant.
Speaking to GamesTM, Pontbriant said:
"We decided that you’re actually, you the player, are the pilot of the Animus. So you start the game and then at some point you get contacted by the Assassin order to explore the memories of Arno through the Animus, and basically figure stuff out for them in the present."
The company has already said as much, but it's still not clear why the Assassins would contact you, what your connection to the story is, or how you got your hands on an Animus. While the Templars have developed an Animus which allows non-descendants to view the memories of people in past eras the Assassins, last we heard, still require a direct family link for theirs.
Following the death of Desmond in Assassin's Creed 3, Ubisoft switched to an unnamed Abstergo employee for Black Flag with the modern day sections being played in first person, something which will continue in Unity.
Creative director Alex Amancio has remarked that the modern sections will be optional. It's also been confirmed that Unity will not feature competitive multiplayer – a series staple since 2010's Assasin's Creed Brotherhood – due to the new four player co-op mode.
Assassin's Creed Unity is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 28th worldwide.
