The weekday updates for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U continue unabated, but today's update in particular is pretty special — it's an image of The Legend of Zelda hero Link in his early game garb from Wii's Skyward Sword. According to a Miiverse post by series director Masahiro Sakurai:
… Here's Link in an outfit based on his ordinary clothes in Skyward Sword! The art style looks a little different, but the actual clothing model is still his usual tunic.
Long-time Smash players are aware that alternate "costumes" for playable fighters usually amount to nothing more than a simple palette swap. There are rare exceptions of course, such as Wario's traditional and WarioWare costumes from Super Smash Bros. Brawl or the Villager's multiple outfit and gender options in the latest game. Link's alternate design is not as drastic a change as these others I've listed, but it does add a little variety to his typically solid-colored wardrobe.
Compare his Smash attire to the original Skyward Sword clothing below.
