Minecraft has been updated with a new snapshot that brings the game up to 14w25a. This new update to the game introduced a new mob called The Guardian.
The Guardian is an underwater creature that, true to its namesake, watches over the newly implemented Water Dungeons. There’s even a larger variant of the Guardian—a miniboss called the Elder Guardian—all of whom will be making it into the game’s next big update: 1.8.
According to the game’s developers at Mojang, the Guardian is capable of attacking players who are underwater, or even those floating above water in boats. The Guardian is capable of dishing out a ranged attack that locks onto its targets, making the monster the first in Minecraft to feature such a mechanic.
You won’t be able to dodge the laser once you’re in its sights, so you’ll have to take cover before it unleashes its full attack. Once you’re out of range, the Guardian goes back to lumbering in its former vicinity instead of giving chase.
