Minecraft on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will feature worlds 36 times larger than those on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as the ability to transfer saves between console generations but a host of new information, including survival mode footage from the Xbox One Edition, has emerged.
We'll begin with the survival mode footage which runs to 20 minutes and confirms that the Xbox 360 version's achievements are present in the game but there will be several new ones as well.
In this ten minute video of gameplay footage, we learn the size of the game world on the new consoles, how maps work, and more. This is the final version of the game which will ship in August. All existing texture packs have been confirmed for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
There's more on the texture packs in the video below, you skip ahead to the 01:10 mark for actual information on the new versions of the game. The texture packs featured in Minecraft from the start on PS4 and Xbox One include the default, city, fantasy, and plastic texture packs.
It's a good move by Mojang, as these are probably the most used texture packs in the game. If you've bought texture packs for the previous versions of Minecraft, they will automatically transfer to the PS4 and Xbox One editions so long as you use the same account , meaning you won't have to double-purchase content.
Finally, Mojang has released a new trailer for Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition. The video shows various PlayStation costumes in the game such as Kratos and Ratchet.
Mojang's Owen Hill also revealed that PS3 owners of Minecraft can upgrade to the PS4 Edition for a reduced price. On the PlayStation Blog, Hill wrote:
"Anyone who’s previously bought PlayStation 3 Edition will be able to upgrade to PlayStation 4 Edition for a small fee. This applies to everyone who’s bought Minecraft digitally and transfers their PSN account to their new console. Our intention is to make this work for the disc version of Minecraft too, but it’s proving a bit trickier to set up. We’ll post more info on this as soon as possible."
Aside from Sony-specific DLCs, 4J Studios is also developing the game for use with the DualShock 4's touchpad which you can use to navigate menus and craft items though Hill says this is optional.
Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition and Minecraft Xbox One Edition are set for release in August.
