Nolan North has dropped his thoughts on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End possibly being the end of the series.
North says that it feels bittersweet, but he does want the game to go out while it’s still on top. He explains he isn’t privy to Naughty Dog’s plans, but he thinks they want to make it their last. North actually also hopes no one else picks up on the series after them, since they had been working on the series for so long.
North may have an earlier Naughty Dog franchise in mind, namely, the Crash Bandicoot games. They set the bar so high on those early games that Vicarious Visions and Traveller’s Tales, and a less conducive situation regarding game development under Vivendi Universal, the Crash series was never the same again. Crash remains MIA after his current IP holder, Activision, shut down his page on their website.
However, Crash’s fate hasn’t been the same for all of Naughty Dog’s IPs. In fact, its other blockbuster series,Jak and Daxter, has come out as a competent, if not always consistent, game series, and Naughty Dog hasn’t always made the best games of it either.
An Uncharted after Naughty Dog might go either way, but here and now, we have Uncharted 4 to look forward to. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is coming to Playstation 4 next year.
