Rainbow Six Siege Takes The Fight Online at Ubisoft’s E3 2014 Event

June 9, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Ubisoft announces an all new game in the Rainbow Six franchise.

Ubisoft announced an all new game during its E3 2014 presser that’s set within the Tom Clancy universe. Titled Rainbow Six Siege, the game is the upcoming installment of the acclaimed first person franchise developed by Ubisoft Montreal studio for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Unlike Rainbow Six Patriots, the cancelled game that took place in a fictional setting in which a group of domestic terrorists take people hostage and blow up a bridge, Rainbow Six Siege appears to be largely grounded in reality and pits five players against another five, as they go up in head-to-head tactical combat.

According to the game’s press release, Rainbow Six Siege is inspired by the reality of counter terrorist operatives across the world, and invites players to partake in close quarters confrontations and team play.

Accordingly, the game features a technological breakthrough that “redefines the way players interact with a game environment.”

Leveraging Ubisoft Montreal’s proprietary Realblast engine, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege incorporates procedural destruction that is realistic and unscripted, meaning the environment reacts authentically, distinctively and dynamically, based on variables like the caliber of bullets or the amount of explosives used. This advance allows players to leverage destruction in meaningful ways. Walls can be shattered, opening new lines of fire. Ceilings and floors can be breached to create new access points. This ability to modify the level design in real time enables players to create new gameplay opportunities directly within the game level.
