It has been reconfirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is being developed on a completely new engine which is build from scratch, according Michael Condrey, co-founder of Sledgehammer games. Condrey confirmed in the latest issue of Edge magazine and also added that eagle eyes fans will still find some lines of the old engine in the upcoming game data files but insisted that the new engine built from scratch is almost unrecognizable.
Activision did impress us with an amazing face tech demo at GDC last year, but we'll hold our praises until we see that fancy face tech engine in practice in Advanced Warfare.
Last year, Infinity Ward were slated for claiming that they have a new engine only for the fans to later discover that it was just a modified IW engine. Condrey claims that the new engine offers new rendering, physics and audio systems…the skeptic in me would suggest that the debut trailer shown by Sledgehammer didn't look all that different from previous COD games apart from a few obvious changes here and there.
For the time being you can check out some of the new screenshots that have surfaced in the latest issue of Edge below.
