Ed Boon has just announced and confirmed Mortal Kombat X. Following this, a teaser trailer has just been released for the new game.
The trailer features the game’s most popular and recognizable mascots, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, facing down in a snowcapped forest, itself an ode to a classic TV commercial for Mortal Kombat 2. It also features music from Wiz Khalifa.
If you’re a fan of what Netherrealm did with Injustice, you’re going to like Mortal Kombat X. The trailer shows that many elements from that game are carrying over, including filmic transitions and use of environmental hazards. The game also brings back Mortal Kombat 9’s X-Ray Moves, with the crunchy sounds punctuating the lovely X-ray visuals of bones breaking.
In the end, we apparently get to see the most seamless transition to a Fatality ever, and if previous Mortal Kombat games made it look goofy, here it looks perhaps uncomfortably real.
Netherrealm did not reveal any platforms or release dates here and now, but it’s hard to see it and not think that it must be coming for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It definitely takes a visual leap forward from Injustice and Mortal Kombat 9. We will make sure to keep you up to date with the newest information as it is officially revealed. In the meantime, you can check out the official announce trailer below. Warning: really graphic content at the end.
