Rocksteady shared a few details about giving over Batman: Arkham Origins over to Warner Bros Games Montreal, and how that relates to Batman: Arkham Knight.
The deal is, Batman: Arkham Origins would not exist if it was not for Batman: Arkham Knight. While Warner Bros Interactive gave Rocksteady leeway over how to develop their next game, they were cognizant early on that the game’s three year development timeframe meant that fans would be looking for a game in the interim for quite a while. This was ultimately not Rocksteady’s call, but Warner Bros’.
To their credit, Rocksteady gave Warner Bros Montreal as much as leeway as possible. In fact, Montreal was hardly restrained from doing anything at all. Rocksteady gave them their code, and outlines what would be coming up in Batman: Arkham Knight, to avoid redundancies and continuity errors, and that was the end of it.
Rocksteady was also all praises for the people at Warner Bros Montreal. They were quick to call the devs really talented, and explained that they just asked Rocksteady about little nits here and there. This was mostly under-the-hood stuff the technical people from both dev teams went back and forth on.
Ultimately, Rocksteady embraces Batman: Arkham Origins, but of course, also points out that the continuity they had planned places Batman: Arkham Knight immediately after Batman: Arkham City. Expectations are high for Rocksteady’s final salvo in the Arkham games, and the fans basically assume they will not be let down.
