Holy shit. HOLY SHIT! Excuse me for a moment while I gush with Tribes elitism. I'm a Tribes veteran. Like so many other PC gamers in the mid-late 90's, I experienced the extreme joy of playing the original groundbreaking Tribes games. Considering the travesty that was Tribes: Vengeance, I was understandably worried that Hi-Rez Studios was going to take the franchise I so loved and screw it up. Judging purely from this gameplay video, however, it looks like that's far from the case. Physics and weapons all seem dead on, and while we haven't seen a good representation of the skiing mechanic, which many will agree was an integral part of the fun in Tribes, it seems like they've got it squared away.
All we have to worry about now is whether or not they've made the regrettable decision to require skiing to work only as long as a button was held down. This, among many other decisions, is why Tribes: Vengeance is so universally derided. I mean, really? Why would anyone think that was a good idea?
Oh, right! Tribes Ascend will also be free to play, too. I guess that's important, but from my standpoint the game has pretty much made a sale already…you know, if they were selling it.
