Chris Roberts has explained that Star Citizen’s first module, Arena Commander, is seeing a delay.
Mainly, the game is still seeing a lot of major bugs that could render the game unplayable if unattended to. One of them causes is a DirectX-related crash. If left alone, it would break the single player Vanduul Swarm mode that the backers themselves were supposed to be able to access. There can be no question that these bugs need to be fixed.
Roberts Space Industries cannot provide a new date, but they promise that release is coming far sooner than people think. To ensure that fans and backers do not feel left out, they are setting up daily updates until they can ship Arena Commander V0.8. They will be sharing everything you need to know to independently verify the health of the build, essentially everything the devs would tell Chris Roberts themselves.
Crowdfunding is still a great avenue to get indies, but it’s also grown to become a contentious topic, as crowdfunded games constantly get delayed and not delivered on time. With this in mind, any talk of delay, even if justified, is sure to raise tempers, if not concerns. Roberts Space Industries was smart to choose this avenue, but even then, fans are putting them on the clock until they deliver.
