Bethesda’s Pete Hines is still getting asked about Fallout 4. This time, however, with E3 looming, fans asked him that big question.
Hines’ response is typical, but it also seems to be definitive. Hines says two things:
1) Bethesda does not announce when they are going to make announcements, and
2) Bethesda Game Studios is not talking about their game for a long time
So it seems there won’t be an announcement for Fallout 4 on E3 at all. Also implicit in the response is the seemingly likelihood that Bethesda is making Fallout 4 now, since they simply won’t refute the rumor.
Of course, it may turn out that Bethesda isn’t making a Fallout game at all, and is simply mum on the rumor as a matter of policy. If it does turn out to be something else, the prolonged growth of the Fallout 4 rumor will have served to distract fans this whole time.
Hines did have another interesting response in the thread, when a fan made comparisons to games like Far Cry , as well as bringing up Bethesda’s own outsourcing of work on Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.
Hines simply replies these were different studios working on different games. Bethesda will apparently take ‘as long as it takes.’
Whatever game it is, it does seem like Bethesda is not hedging bets. With this prolonged development, it seems like this game is being designed with 8th generation consoles in mind, and may have ambitious ideas in the scale of Destiny and Watch Dogs. We’ll make sure to keep you up to date when they finally feel secure enough to announce it.
