Xbox One Kinect-Free Menus to be Overhauled for Controllers

May 14, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Microsoft plans to make its Xbox One OS easier to use with controllers.

Microsoft plans to overhaul the Xbox One's menu system for easier controller use following the company's announcement yesterday that it will offer a Kinect-free Xbox One system next month.

Xbox marketing chief Yusuf Mehdi told Engadget that Microsoft will make its menus easier to operate for those unable to use voice controls. He explained:

"We do want to find ways to give you some of those shortcuts and make some of the things that we have with Kinect easier with the controller

"You can expect to see us do a bunch of things over the coming months to make the experience easier and easier, even if you don't have a Kinect."

However, he added that the changes are unlikely to take effect before E3 next month when the Kinect-less Xbox One will launch on June 9th.

The system will cost $399 but Microsoft does not yet know when the standalone Kinect sensor will be available or for what price.

In another interview, Yusuf said he belives Microsoft has a "very strong" games lineup for the holidays this year.
