Square Enix Corporate Executive Shinji Hashimoto has hinted that both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III might appear at this year’s E3 after all.
Perhaps this sudden announcement was made to assuage fears raised by the lower software projections Square Enix made in the coming financial year, but it’s certainly welcome news. Hashimoto made the announcement in another fan event, Thailand Comic-Con, so this was definitely something to help generate hype for the two games.
Hashimoto pointed out, however, that Square Enix will have a presence in several events as well, including the San Diego Comic-Con and Tokyo Game Show. I guess this is not a comment on whether the two games are appearing on E3 or not, but just a reminder that Square will be making use of many public events to show off their upcoming games.
As an aside, Hashimoto explained why Sony sold their Square Enix stock. This was actually a sign of continuing good relations between the two companies. Sony bought their stock in 2001 to help them get out of the financial rut they had at the time. (For those who may not remember, this is the same year they came out with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.)
Here and now, Square Enix is profitable, but Sony is encountering financial difficulties, so Square simply returned that favor.
Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III are both slated for Playstation 4 and Xbox One, but no release dates have been set.
