Starbreeze Studios has been around for years now. After being founded in 1998 the studio was able to deliver both video games as a developer and a publisher. Over the years the studio seemed to have done well until recently during the fiasco with their subsidiary Overkill Software releasing Overkill’s The Walking Dead. This title wasn’t well received and it was leading to a potentially rocky end to Starbreeze Studios in general.
Without getting too deep into the backstory of Overkill’s The Walking Dead, the game was a massive failure after first being stuck in development hell and then finally getting a launch in 2018 for PC with negative reviews. Eventually, it leads to the cancellation of console ports for the title along with Skybound Entertainment terminating their contract with Starbreeze Studios. This disaster of a game release eventually forced Starbreeze Studios CEO at the time to resign from his job which also had its share of headline moments.
Regardless, it’s been a few years since we heard from Starbreeze Studios which was undergoing some corporate restructuring. Now it looks like the studio is on track to deliver Payday 3 which is their main focus. It was recently unveiled during a financial report featuring Starbreeze Studios’ current CEO, Tobias Sjogren, that the company is currently standing strong as they continue hiring new developers to strengthen their organization.
We’ll know just how well Starbreeze Studios is doing when the company starts marketing Payday 3. Unfortunately, we know that Payday 3 is not releasing this year so we might be waiting a good while before we see this game showcased let alone get a chance to play it. At the very least, it looks like things are looking up for Starbreeze Studios.
