Capcom Introduces Their Retro Station

December 31, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

A new mini-console was revealed.

After the incredible success of Nintendo’s mini-console, the Nintendo Entertainment System, we’ve seen other companies bring out their unique plug-and-play style systems. These consoles are usually full of classic video game titles and it’s a play on nostalgia as they are shaped in a classic video game console platform as well. However, there have been other companies that put out mini consoles that never released an actual hardware platform into the market.

Today we’re looking at Capcom’s mini console which has been dubbed the Retro Station. In the past, this console hardware was leaked but no official details were unveiled regarding just what the hardware would come with. Today, we know that the system is shaped in the style of an old CRT monitor and arcade-style controls. Meanwhile, the visuals of the console resemble the classic platformer, Mega Man.

In terms of the video game titles that will be included, it’s not a very packed system. Instead, players will only find two franchises represented in this system. Those would be Mega Man and Street Fighter. While the two will have an assortment of video game titles added into the system, it’s worth noting that players can connect this system to their television displays via an HDMI. Furthermore, there are options to add a secondary unit or controller to allow two players to compete against each other in Street Fighter.

Currently, the system is not set to release until March 2021 in Japan which will cost over USD 200. It’s a bit of a steep price to some but this may be worth it for those that are massive fans of the two franchises. Unfortunately, it’s uncertain just when the hardware will make its way outside of Japan.
