The Heartbleed bug has been making the rounds on the internet lately, with some websites—notably Yahoo’s e-mail service—being compromised by the security flaw. If you don’t know how the Heartbleed bug works, the following comic from XKCD goes a long way to making it easy to explain.
tl;dr it spits out your passwords to people who aren’t supposed to have access to it.
Needless to say, with a lot of services affected, you might be wondering if your account on Blizzard’s battle.net is also impacted by the bug. Blizzard has posted a statement to assure users that it is not affected by the vulnerability.
“We want to emphasize that Battle.net’s encryption was not affected by this vulnerability,” say Blizzard. “However, if you use the same password on Battle.net that you use elsewhere, your Battle.net account could be at risk if those sites were affected by this bug.”
“If the above situation applies to you, we recommend changing your Battle.net password to a new, unique password.”
Do that, and you’ll be safe.
