Ubisoft has a new blog post explaining the cooperative / competitive elements that define open world team racer The Crew.
To get started, you can build up a team of four racers and start out in the Missions. Every time one of the racers completes a Mission, everyone gets experience points and they finish said Mission, but the one who did it gets the most points out of it. Players can also pick up Skills along the way, which are small, fast challenges that reward experience and car parts.
Now, the vehicles in The Crew are classified under Specs, and each Spec is best suited for particular Missions. Raid Spec is built tough, and can go off-road, as well as pick up takedown Missions. Steet Spec cars, as you can imagine, are your bread and butter street legal sports cars.
You can also built your own cars when you go into Perf Spec. This customization mode isn’t for everyone, though, as the emphasis here is on building cars with top speed, at the cost of agility.
Thanks to Creative Director Julian Gerighty, previously known for Smuggler’s Run, The Crew takes the well explored racing genre, and layers on it trappings of MMOs, paired with intense customization options, to provide a unique experience. The crew is coming Q3 to Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
