Insomniac Games has revealed in their Twitter account that Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3 will all get their servers shut down tomorrow, April 8.
The Resistance series of games came out throughout the Playstation 3’s lifespan, and was both a showcase of the platform’s evolving capabilities, as much as a popular franchise on the platform.
The games were set in an alternate history 1950s, where an invading extraterrestrial force codenamed the Chimera have spearheaded an invasion of Earth. All the games offered extensive online modes, including cooperative, team deathmatch, capture the flag, etc. While it couldn’t be said to have caught up to the popularity of Call of Duty, the games definitely have a following.

In some follow up tweets, Insomniac provides some clarifications. First off, they explain that Sony made the call to shut down the servers, and there can be several reasons for it to happen. It seems Insomniac was not made privy to the decision, but it should not really be a huge surprise, given the slow shift to a new console generation.
@hatcheatluv84 there are a large variety of reasons why they have to shut down. Sony makes that call though, not us. They maintain online

Some sharp readers may have noted that Resistance: Burning Skies was not mentioned. In fact, Insomniac says they are not entirely sure themselves. However, I would caution that this may have merely been an oversight of Sony not communicating it properly.
@NathalieVRooy not sure
