A Borderlands "pre-sequel" is coming to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 according to online retailer GamePointsNow.
The site claims that the game is in development at 2K Australia and will be set on Pandora's moon. Four new lead characters will be available and they are: Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap.
Wilhelm was a boss in Borderlands 2 while Athena made an appearance in the first game's General Knoxx DLC and Fragtrap is, of course, a more robust version of Claptrap.
Players will be following the orders of 'John', who later goes on to become Handsome Jack, as he searches for an alien artefact. Two new weapon classes have been added to the game, laser and cyro, which allows you to freeze your enemies. The moon has a low gravity environment meaning you can shoot bandits into space and move around rapidly using jet packs however, you'll also need to keep an eye on your oxygen levels which can be restored by looting 'OX-Kits'.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently tweeted to say that the studio is currently working on "next-gen. Platforms TBD," possibly suggesting that if GamePointsNow is correct, we'll have two new Borderlands announcements this year.
The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games is currently working on Tales from the Borderlands, which shifts the series to an episodic format, while PS Vita owners will be able to delve into the second game from May.
It would be best to treat this pre-sequel as pure rumour until Gearbox or 2K officially comments on the game.
