Respawn has revealed they are implementing some tweaks to matchmaking in Titanfall, even as they highlight what they’ve done right by it.
So, 1st things 1st, Titanfall matchmaking has a skill curve working behind the scenes. The game seems to have done a good job of figuring out the skill levels each players have and matching similar level players to each other. However, they have not really optimized how that data has been used.
With that in mind, these are the changes Respawn is doing to Titanfall:
The algorithm will now take more time finding matchups, balancing out a bit towards finding a good match over setting one up quickly. That way, you get better games.
Every now and then, team members will be analyzed individually to find alternative team matchups. This will be implemented in situations where a certain one sided matchup between the same two teams is repeating too many times. So, in the case that you and your team are having one of those bad nights, the algorithm will recognize this, adjust your team member stats, and find you another matchup immediately.
If you’re playing Titanfall and you want to give this a try, you can go to Play Classic MP > Improved Matchmaking (Beta). Respawn ends by affirming that, as always, they will check feedback and adjust matchmaking further as befits the situation.
It’s great to see Respawn update fans quickly, and notably, briefly and clearly. We’re sure Xbox 360 owners who haven’t dipped in yet are looking forward to playing it next month.
