[Obligatory IT'S OVER 90,000 joke] This past January, Young Horses released Octodad: Dadliest Catch, follow up to the 2010 freeware original and cult indie favorite Octodad. Today the team has announced sales figures for the sequel in an update to their official site, revealing they've now sold over 90,000 copies on PC, Linux, and Mac. Noting that they've been reading massive online feedback from a wide variety of sources, the team promises that the game will continue to evolve and improve as they hear our thoughts, saying:
We want our players to know that we pay attention to what they have to say and that they can look forward to our continued support of the game. As our designers worked towards these changes, our programmers have also been finishing the PS4 version of the game. We’re so excited to get it out there soon!
The success of Octodad, which has far exceeded the expectations of the Young Horses dev team, is a testament to the power of word of mouth in the indie community, who showed enormous support for the sequel leading up to its release and undeniably contributed to the game's rise to household name. The popularity will only continue to grow with the upcoming release of Octodad: Dadliest Catch on PlayStation 4, expected sometime next month.
