2020 was quite the hyped-up year going into it for the video game industry. Fans knew that both Sony and Microsoft had plans to bring out their next-generation video game console platforms into the market. However, none of us could have predicted the situation the world is in at this moment. With the strong movements and the health pandemic outbreak, there was some uncertainty if Sony and Microsoft could even pull off a successful launch. While some may have assumed that everything would get pushed back into 2021 if not later with the current events, it looks like both companies are pushing forward.
Both Sony and Microsoft are still moving along with their consoles launching into the market this holiday season. While the introduction and showcases for these consoles have been quite unusual compared to past generations because of the coronavirus health pandemic limiting gatherings and ultimately shutting down events. As a result, we’re getting information for both consoles coming out in regular streaming showcases online. While both consoles have been unveiled with the various components and even video game software launching alongside, neither company seemed too keen on announcing a specific release date or price point.
That finally changed this month when Microsoft announced the price for both the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S. Likewise, we know that the consoles will be hitting the marketplace on November 10, 2020. So the ball is in Sony’s court to see just how much their PlayStation 5 and their digital-only version of the PlayStation 5 would cost players and when it will be readily available for players to pick up. That information may be coming this week as Sony announced a new stream event.
Sony announced on their official PlayStation Blog that a new PlayStation 5 showcase will happen on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. We know that this will last about forty minutes and include some updates on video game titles and likely some details regarding the price for the consoles, pre-order dates, and the launch date. We’ll of course keep you updated on the latest for the PlayStation 5 right here on Gameranx.
